Bio
Sifu Paul Melidosian teaches classical Shaolin Long Fist (Chang Quan), with an emphasis on developing the core qualities that define traditional Shaolin practice—structure, alignment, intent, and functional martial expression. His approach balances physical discipline with cultivation, helping students build a body that is both capable and integrated.
Paul began his martial arts journey in 1981 at Peter Kwok’s Kung Fu Academy in New Jersey under Sifu Al Bender Jr., later known as the Kung Fu Academy of New Jersey. He trained extensively in Northern Shaolin Long Fist, Tai Chi, Xing Yi, and Bagua, receiving his black sash in 1988 and teaching from 1985 through 1990. He is currently a student of Sigong Grandmaster G. S. Torres, continuing a direct line of study rooted in the original transmissions of the system.
Paul’s teaching focuses on structure and alignment, practical martial application, and personal cultivation. He values authentic practice, steady progress, and a learning environment where depth is developed over time.
Paul is proud to be part of Studio Taiji. Lance is his kung fu brother, and he appreciates the care and clarity Lance has brought to building a school centered on authenticity, thoughtful instruction, and community. The space reflects a calm, accessible atmosphere grounded in genuine practice, and Paul is glad to contribute to its growth.
